FAQ & Care Instructions

Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions

What species of wood do you use?

We work primarily with sustainably farmed Teak (Tectona grandis) and Honduran Mahogany (Swietenia macrophylla). Both are selected for grain quality, density, and natural resistance to weathering.

Is your wood sustainably sourced?

Yes. All timber comes from FSC-certified sustainable farms. We do not source from old-growth forests. For every tree harvested, three are replanted as part of our ongoing reforestation program.

Can I use teak furniture outdoors year-round?

Teak is one of the few hardwoods naturally suited to outdoor use in all climates. Its high natural oil content and tight grain resist moisture, UV, and insects without treatment. It will silver gracefully over time if left untreated — or maintain its warm honey tone with annual oiling.

Do you offer custom sizing?

Yes — all pieces can be made to custom dimensions. Visit our Custom Orders page or contact us directly to begin a consultation.

What is your warranty?

All Carara pieces carry a lifetime structural warranty against defects in craftsmanship. Natural weathering, checking, and colour change in wood are not defects — they are the living character of the material.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes. We ship to the contiguous United States, Canada, and select international destinations. Freight is calculated at checkout. White-glove delivery and room placement is available in major US metro areas.

What is your return policy?

In-stock items may be returned within 30 days in original condition. Custom orders are non-returnable once production begins. Contact us within 48 hours of delivery for any damage claims.

Care & Maintenance

Caring for Your Piece

Teak Furniture

  • Clean with mild soap and warm water using a soft cloth
  • Apply teak oil or linseed oil once per year to maintain honey colour
  • For outdoor pieces, apply teak sealant each season

  • If silvering occurs, a light sand with 220-grit followed by oiling fully restores colour
  • Store cushions indoors when not in use

Mahogany Furniture

  • Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth
  • Use a quality furniture oil or wax every 6–12 months
  • Avoid direct sunlight to prevent fading
  • Use coasters and placemats to protect surfaces
  • Maintain indoor humidity between 40–60% to prevent checking

Leather Upholstery

  • Wipe spills immediately with a clean, dry cloth
  • Condition with quality leather conditioner every 6 months
  • Keep away from direct heat sources and sunlight
  • Do not use harsh chemicals or solvent-based cleaners
